An exceptional and extremely rare pairing of finely hand painted and hand glazed ceramic tile sets from mid-19th century Persia (modern-day Iran), created during the flourishing Qajar Dynasty (1789–1925). Likely produced in Tehran, an important center for ceramic artistry of the period, both sets exhibit the vivid colors, delicate brushwork, and refined aesthetic characteristic of Qajar court art.
The first set (8 tiles) depicts an elaborate shikargah (royal hunting) scene, alive with movement and detailed imagery, celebrating one of the favored pursuits of Persian nobility.
The second set (6 tiles) appears to portray poetic imagery inspired by the verses of Omar Khayyam, reflecting themes of wine, love, and philosophical reflection rendered in quintessential Qajar style.
Antique persian pictorial tiles are extremely rare and are seldom seen outside international auctions and museums, I am privileged to have offered a collection of these extraordinary 19th-century Qajar masterpieces!
