A finely hand carved circular box in a pale stone like material, likely alabaster or composition stone, bearing an impressed maker’s mark in the form of a five pointed star enclosing an initial, and inscribed with the date 1916 on the underside. The stylistic features and craftsmanship indicate production in the early 20th century, within or shortly after the Edwardian period. The combination of material, motif, and technique suggests European origin, possibly Italian or French, where small decorative objects of this type were popular in domestic and artistic settings of the time.
The lid is intricately carved in relief with three facing peacocks, the sides of the box are decorated with matching foliate designs, displaying precision and balance throughout. The surface shows a soft matte finish and gentle aging consistent with its period. Both decorative and functional, the piece exemplifies early 20th-century European craftsmanship.
