This elegant creamware vase was made by Wedgwood at their Etruria and Barlaston works in Staffordshire, England, in February 1949. Its date of manufacture is confirmed by the impressed factory code “OB,” part of Wedgwood’s internal dating system in which the first letter indicates the year and the second the month of production. The vase is crafted from Queen’s Ware, a fine, ivory-toned earthenware developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 18th century and still produced a century later for its smooth texture and refined appearance. Its design features a fluted body rising from a circular foot, with a raised grapevine and leaf motif encircling the rim, a hallmark of Wedgwood’s Embossed Queen’s Ware line.
